It's spring! I did this cover for Ladybug Magazine last winter. It should be in mailboxes now.

southwestern paper bead necklace for a special client

I was asked to do a paper bead necklace similar to one in my shop but with silver components rather than copper and with a southwestern vibe. This is now off to it's new happy home.

 It can be worn long or doubled with the clasp at the front of the neck.

polymer thingys

I was able to spend a few days making polymer beads. I started just making beads for the Cowgirl necklaces but got carried away. I can hardly wait to turn them into something fab.

Well, I changed my mind.

This necklace had a mind of it's own and became something different than originally planned.

I love how it turned out. 

And now I have to start all over to do the version of the cowgirl necklace as mentioned in the last post.

What's happening at RocksandPaperSwans today?

I'm making another version of this sort-of-kind-of southwestern style necklace with some of my polymer clay beads, silver beads, Czech glass, jasper, African turquoise and various other beads from my stash for a charming woman in New Zealand. My jewelry does love to travel!

There are a number of differences; I used chryosprase in the center
rather than hammered agate as the holes were just too small in this new batch of agate
to string, and among some other things I added a couple of beads from an Etsy seller who's work I am crazy about (the brown dotted rounds).
I won't repeat exactly the same design again anyway since I promise one-of-a-kind pieces.

I'll show the finish in a couple of days.

Been on an earring making kick lately. They are my favorite things to wear and my least favorite to list in the shop because it takes more time than it's worth to photograph, describe/price/list them. But I can't stop making them. Can't stop.

Besides, a girl can't have too many earrings!

Paper Bead Things

Love making these - colorful in sort of a neutral way so they go with lots.

I'm finishing the photography and listing details for these and others that will be in the shop soon.

I hate this part, seems to take forever. I always have to measure everything and look up the names and costs of the odd and/or really old beads I collect because I don't seem able to write it down when I'm in-the-zone creating the pieces.

the power of copper and turquoise together

It's no secret that I love using both copper and turquoise in my designs. Turquoise, especially the blue shades I gravitate to, calms my spirit the way the waters of the Caribbean or the Florida Keys do.

I have read that when turquoise is used with copper the gemstone's power is increased and if given by a friend that stone would offer protection from negative energy and bring good fortune; it is one of the oldest protection amulets.

It is said that the color turquoise helps to open the lines of communication between the heart and the spoken word, it is a color that recharges our spirits during times of stress and that to focus on the color will give instant calm and gently energize one.

I feel good making and wearing things that, if we let them, have so much potential to change how we experience our lives.

 

 

 

and silver and turquoise are a match made in Heaven. I need to Google that combination, I'm sure there is power there too.
